Ivy Hearts & Rings, Indoor Ferns Houseplants brighten any room with their color, texture or fragrance. They can also clean the air in your home! Nasa and the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) conducted a 2 year study and concluded that many common indoor plants are effective in removing several key pollutants associated with indoor air pollution. Philodendron, Spider Plants and the Golden Pothos were most effective in removing formaldehyde molecules. Flowering plants such as Gerbera Daisy and Chrysanthemums were superior in removing benzene from the atmosphere. Other good performers are Dracaena, Ivy, Peace Lily and Golden Pothos. The study revealed that houseplants take substances out of the air through the tiny openings in their leaves and that the plant leaves, roots and soil bacteria are all important in removing trace levels of toxic vapors.
